The 24-year-old has not featured for the club since their 1-0 win over his former side Hannover 96.

FC Koln will have to wait a little longer before their mercurial Kenyan left winger Linton Maina features as he will not be taking part in their crunch Bundesliga opener against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Maina has not featured for the club since their 1-0 pre-season win over his former side Hannover 96, a game he started.

Speaking ahead of the match on Saturday, coach Steffan Baumgart revealed that Maina has resumed training with the team, but he could be out for much longer than expected.

“Linton Maina trained with the team for the first time today. It will take a while for him,” Baugart said.

Maina had a solid if not spectacular first season for Koln after signing for the Bundesliga outfit at the beginning of last season.

He clocked 2177 Bundesliga minutes under his belt, starting 26 times out of a possible 34 games. He scored seven goals and assisted another seven times.

Maina is born to a German mother and a Kenyan father. Having played for Germany up to the Under 20s level, he could still feature for Harambee Stars in the future.
