Villa lie fifth on the 15-team SUPL log with 24 points midway through the campaign but towards the end of the first round reports suggested that some members of the Villa hierarchy were not contented with Magera in the dug out.

SC Villa head coach Jackson Magera has described the pressure that comes along with managing the StarTimes Uganda Premier League record champions as 'normal'.

Magera was among the assistant coaches whose contracts were not renewed at KCCA FC in 2021 and left to join Villa in the same position.

After Greek tactician Petros Koukouras was sacked at the end of the 2021/22 season, Magera was elevated to the position of head coach and he has so far done fairly well.

“It is normal to have pressure while working with such a team,” Magera told Pulse Sports shortly after he was named the coach of the month for December at Kati Kati Restaurant on Friday evening.

“This is a historical club and arguably the best in Uganda so pressure is expected in such a position because delivering good results is mandatory.”

“I want to believe that the pressure has in one way or the other helped because when you look at our results they are good compared to how things have been in the recent past.”

Villa lie fifth on the 15-team SUPL log with 24 points midway through the campaign but towards the end of the first round reports suggested that some members of the Villa hierarchy were not contented with Magera in the dug out.

“During all these moments, my mind goes back to coach Mike Mutebi who taught me a lot of things including how to deal with pressure,” Magera noted.

“The most important thing is to focus and perfect your job and let others also perform their tasks so how to continue getting the best out of our players is what I am looking forward to.”

“We have a young team with a lot of potential and I am hopeful that we are going to have even a better second part of the season compared to what we had in the first part.”

Magera has already witnessed his side advance to the Round of 32 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup with ease after thrashing Kireka United FC 6-0 in the Round of 64.

The 16-time winners of the SUPL will kick off the second round of the 2022/23 campaign away to Gaddafi FC on November 11th.
