Uganda Police Football Club head coach Simon Mugerwa has expressed firm determination to make history with the club he considers as his 'childhood team.'

The newly appointed head coach noted that he has held the club in high regard since his childhood and hopes to meet their targets for the 2023/24 FUFA Big League season.

"I consider the Police Football Club as my home team. Since my childhood, I have been following this club. It was in the lower league at the time before earning promotion to the top-flight league," he told Police FC media.

"I am a born of the area and therefore, it is a dream come true to the head coach at the moment."

Police FC narrowly missed qualification to the top-flight league last season, ending in the fourth position as the top three earned promotion. Mugerwa admitted that Police bosses want the club at the top level, and the work is cut out for him.

"The task is very clear: to work hard with the players and technical team to see that we take the club back to the Uganda Premier League because the club is at that level," he said.

"We have to fight and work hard for every game to get the points required."

Police FC have had an overhaul of the squad with thirteen new signings. Mugerwa noted that they chose players with experience to compete for a spot in the top-flight league.

"We wanted to work with players who have the added motivation to work hard to be at the top level," he explained.

"We added them to help the club get back to where they also want to be. With the experience they have at various clubs, we have a quality squad."

"I have worked with most of them before, and it will be a great experience to meet the club's target."

Police FC will start the 2023/24 season against Young Elephants at Kavumba Recreational Grounds on September 25.
