In his Sunday luncheon with the squad and the technical team, Vipers SC director Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa showered midfielder Abdul-Karim Watambala with praises for his competitive spirit at the club.

Mulindwa, who lectured the team on the need to stay competitive, made the brief in a meeting where the team was reminded of the season goals.

He stressed the need to embrace healthy competition for places and reminded them that every player needed to have assurances for a starting berth.

He rallied them to fight on regardless of the insufficient playing time for a number of the players who would otherwise have decided to leave the battlefield.

"I'll give Watambala as an example; if it were another person, he wouldn't have renewed his contract," Mulindwa started.

"Because in the past seasons, he wouldn't play enough, but when it (the contract) ended (expired), he was the first person to renew because he felt he could gain more."

"He didn't say, 'I should run away because they have given me few matches.' No, he stayed, and he is doing well now," he added.

Watambala has had a bright start to the 2023/24 campaign, scoring three goals already whilst recording an assist in the first six games of the Uganda Premier League.

"It's not because Watambala didn't know football, but there can be certain circumstances that may make you drop in levels in some moments."

The 23-year-old is currently in his fifth season at Vipers, where he has racked up 77 league appearances and scored ten times.
