In Mayanja’s absence, the tried and tested Muhammad Shaban was handed the chance to lead the line but struggled to impress throughout the game.

KCCA FC lost 2-1 to URA FC in the FUFA Super 8 Tournament semi-final Friday evening.

Substitute Laban Tibita scored the winning goal in the second minute of added time to send the Tax Collectors to the final and silence a fully-packed MTN Omondi Stadium.

Obenchan-Magambo

KCCA FC were twice exposed at the back, and URA pounced to score. First, it was striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe who reacted fastest to head in the opening goal with both Peter Magambo and Philbert Obenchan flat-footed.

Ahimbisibwe could have made it 2-0 immediately after he was allowed a lot of time on the ball to force goalkeeper Anthony Emojong into a brilliant save to keep KCCA in the game.

Sergio Traguil will have to find a partnership that will work at the back, but it might not be the two defenders on the pitch at the same time.

Abubakar Mayanja

It is still early days in the career of young striker Abubakar Mayanja, but Friday’s game revealed why he could be KCCA’s most prized asset up front in the new season.

Having scored a brace against Wakiso Giants FC in the quarter-final, the KCCA Academy graduate was sidelined for the semi-final with a knock.

In Mayanja’s absence, the tried and tested Muhammad Shaban was handed the chance to lead the line but struggled to impress throughout the game.

If the game was supposed to show what KCCA would be like without Mayanja leading the line, it proved that they would struggle for goals.

Vinicius Michael also came on but failed to make an impression as the Kasasiro Boys bowed out in the end.

Waiswa attitude not right

No one should be crucified for missing a penalty. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi miss them too.

But Moses Waiswa’s body language and demeanour on the pitch can be a lot more positive. His weak penalty was easily saved by URA custodian Dennis Otim and denied KCCA the perfect start to the game.

There is no doubt about the talent Waiswa possesses, but hard work beats talent these days.

A more serious Moses Waiswa is unplayable, but it’s been a while since that one laced up.

KCCA in a good place

They might have lost the game, but KCCA FC are still in a good place. It is still early in the Sergio Traguil era, and one can see what the team is trying to do with and without the ball.

KCCA will play the KCCA way, and the signs are already there. They are playing out from the back and are pretty comfortable on the ball.
