Reigning champions Uganda Martyrs University will seek to extend their impressive start to the 2023/24 Pepsi University Football League when they visit University of Kisubi (UNIK) on Thursday in Entebbe.

Uganda Martyrs were comfortable 3-1 winners in their season opener at home against Bugema University, courtesy of a brace from Akbar Ssentongo Akbar and a goal from Ivan Agamire.

And head coach Eric Kisuze has stressed that the team is solely focused on extending their winning run and defending this season's title.

"As defending champions, we know that everyone wants to beat us," Kisuze confessed to the media.

"But, we are looking to defend our title and also want to win all our games," Kisuze added.

"Our strategy may not be the beautiful football we all want to see, but I am happy as long as we get the ball in the net.

On the other hand, University of Kisubi head coach Jesse Lukoki Jesse has expressed optimism his team can upset the champions.

"It is possible to beat Uganda Martyrs, and that is what we are going to do on Thursday," Lukoki said.

"Although we lost our first game away to Kabale, I believe we shall do better on our home ground," he added.

"What is important is to show great fighting spirit and determination. We believe in ourselves and did not come here to participate."

University of Kisubi have never made it past the competition's group stages and risk another season of similar fate should they lose to Uganda Martyrs.
