On the other hand, Vipers were successive defeats for the first time this season, to descend to fourth with 24 points.

Express FC head coach Alex Isabirye guided his side past his former paymasters Vipers SC in a 2-0 Uganda Premier League victory at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.

Isabirye departed the Venoms towards the start of the campaign following alleged internal disagreements, before settling for the Express job.

His side scored either side of the match, courtesy of left-back Isma Kawawulo and the red-hot Isaac Wagoina.

Kawawulo scored in the 38th minute off a rebound from Emmanuel Wasswa's freekick, that crawled past goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu.

The goal came after Rodriguez Shamamba had failed to connect a Yunus Sentamu pass for what should have been an easy tap-in.

With Vipers the likelier to get the next goal, the hosts killed off the game in the 77th minute after Wagoina turned defender Murushid Juuko to drive further forward and slot past Kiggundu.

The victory makes it two victories on the bounce for Isabirye and his side as they ascend to eighth on the log with 19 points in 13 matches.
