Defender Halid Lwaliwa has come out to underline how the team is determined to overcome the past barriers to return the pride of the flag.

Uganda Cranes have hit a massive slump in the recent past that had them miss out on qualifications for both the 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

They are now headed for the World Cup qualification campaign, and the urge to turn their fortunes around is sky high.

Defender Halid Lwaliwa has come out to underline how the team is determined to overcome the past barriers to return the pride of the flag.

The Cranes take on Guinea and Somalia in the first matches of the qualifiers, on November 17 and 21, respectively.

"Everyone looks interested and set, and as usual, as players, when we get to the pitch, we give 100% to raise the flag high," Lwaliwa spoke after joining the Cranes camp in Morocco.

"I'm hopeful this time around in this World Cup qualifying campaign, it won't be any different."

"We had dropped our levels a bit, but this time around, everyone will awaken, and it'll be good for us as long as we work as a whole," he added.

Uganda are currently under new management, with Paul Joseph and Sam Ssimbwa the faces at the helm as head coach and assistant coach, respectively.

With the new faces, Lwaliwa is optimistic the team will work harder and respond to instructions for positive results.

"This time around, we are going to work harder and give in a lot more than usual, but also pray that God and luck come our way."

"We only meet for a short time and play the games, but football is the same everywhere, and it's all about putting to life the coach's instructions."

"And, I'm hopeful we'll do whatever the coaches will tell us because it gets easier if we do," the former Vipers skipper summed.

Lwaliwa currently features for North Macedonia's FK Bregalnica Stip, and Uganda Cranes will hope to gain massively from his European experience.
