Manchester United Fan Who Vowed Not to Shave Until They Win Five Straight Games Still Waiting a Year Later
Football fans can go to great lengths to show their support and appreciation for their teams but for one Manchester United supporter, it is turning into a worry.
United have endured a torrid time in the last two seasons with Erik ten Hag finishing eighth in 2023-24 before getting sacked two months into the 2024-25 campaign and his successor Ruben Amorim has fared worse.
When fans thought eighth was worse, Amorim’s United was nearly relegated as they limped to a 15th place finish in the Premier League last season.

Things have not changed this term with the Red Devils recording one win, a draw and a loss while their performances have not inspired, apart from the season-opening 1-0 loss to Arsenal.
United Fan in Agonizing Wait for Five-Game Win Run
This poor run has left a United supporter in a tight corner as he had promised to shave his hair only if they won five straight games but nearly one year later, he has to deal with super-sized hair that has ballooned into an afro that is even bigger than that spotted by former United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
After United went five games without a win in October 2024, following a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, lifelong fan Frank Ilett vowed not to shave until the Old Trafford club put together a five-match winning run but he never expected what has since unfolded.
It is almost a year and United have turned into an inconsistent team whose fans do not know what to expect whenever they head into a match and as a result, Ilett has not visited his barber and looks untidy.
“I just wanted to do something that kind of gives people a laugh in a bit of a difficult time, really but there was no way that I expected it to go on for as long as it has,” the 29-year-old told The Athletic.
Frank Ilett Hopes to Donate His Hair to Cancer Charity
“I’m committed until however long it takes now,” he added, vowing to wait for when what seems unlikely now will happen.
On the positive side, Ilett, who has previously raised money for Mind UK, a mental health charity, plans to donate his hair to a charity that can turn it into wigs for young cancer patients.
“Believe it or not, my hair is not yet long enough to donate, so if the challenge was to end sooner rather than later, I wanted to make sure I could help them in some way, no matter what. The plan for some time now has been to donate my hair to them at the end,” he said.
With United taking on Manchester City on Sunday and then Chelsea next week, it looks like Ilett might have to wait much longer before his desire is realised as Amorim’s team have not displayed great form to win five in a row yet.
