Kwemoi, Munerya win Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon

ATHLETICS Kwemoi, Munerya win Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon

Kwemoi clocked two hours, 17 minutes and 21 seconds to cross the finish line along Stanley Road head of Benard Cheptoch.

The second edition of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon attracted thousands of runners but Vitalis Kwemoi and Viola Chemos Munerya came home first to win the men and women’s races respectively.

The two won the 42km race, the main event of the second edition of the marathon.

Kwemoi clocked two hours, 17 minutes and 21 seconds to cross the finish line along Stanley Road head of Benard Cheptoch.

Cheptoch clocked 02:17:22 and was followed by Shetrack Kimaiyo, whose 02:17:37 time landed him the bronze.

Abraham Kiplimo and Daniel Rotich finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Munerya was the first lady o cross the finish line in 2:49:03 to take the women’s gold.

Rosina Jepkosgei Kiboino clocked 2:50:32 to finish second while Priscilla Chelengat (2:52:01) was third.

In the 21km race, Abel Chebet beat Ben Chelimo to the finish line in a photo finish.

Chebet clocked 1:02:56 while Chelimo (1:02:57) was a second late and took home the silver.

Norman Kipyeko came home in third place to complete the podium.

Dorcas Ajok (1:16:24) won the women’s 21km race and was followed by Belinda Fred Chemutai (1:16:30) and Annet Chememgich (1:16:32).

The marathon is organized to celebrate the beauty and majesty of the Rwenzori mountain.

Silver: Benard Cheptoch (Uganda) – 02:17:22

Bronze: Shetrack Kimaiyo (Uganda) – 02:17:37

Female

Gold: Viola Chemos Munerya (Uganda) – 2:49:03

Silver: Rosina Jepkosgei Kiboino (Uganda) – 2:50:32

Bronze: Priscilla Chelengat (Uganda) – 2:52:01
