The UCU Lady Canons returned to league action as they blew out A1 Challenge 75-49 in the National Basketball League at the YMCA grounds on Wednesday.

The Lady Canons could go up a gear as they raced to a 42-38 halftime lead and did not look back, winning the game comfortably.

Captain Hajjara Najjuko, who led the game in scoring with 19 points, said that she is proud that her team was able to return to action with a win.

"I am proud of the team as we have been training hard leading into this fixture, we have taken a while without playing in the league, so it's a good feeling to get back to action," Najjuko told the media after the game.

"We have not been resting during our first round break, and we have shown everybody that we came back ready," she added.

A1 Challenge head coach Eric Matovu acknowledged plenty of work to be done in their next game.

"Credit goes to the Lady Canons because they executed their plays, and we were not able to do that in our game, we lost today, but we will look to get back to winning ways in the next game," Matovu said.

The Lady Canons face Kampala University next in league action as they secure back-to-back wins to start the second round, while the A1 Challenge will face the Angels, looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
