Bilal Hassan was Uganda's best performer on the day as he picked up 4(23), while Dinesh Nakrani 2(14) and veteran Franko Nsubuga 2(29) each managed two wickets apiece.

Uganda got off to a bright start at the Africa Continental Cup T20 tournament by registering a six-wicket victory over Botswana on Friday afternoon at the Gymkhana Nairobi cricket oval.

Botswana won the toss and sent Uganda to the field, which limited them to 114 all out.

Bilal Hassan was Uganda's best performer on the day as he picked up 4(23), while Dinesh Nakrani 2(14) and veteran Franko Nsubuga 2(29) each managed two wickets apiece.

Roger Mukasa's 41(18) led Uganda's chase, including four boundaries and three sixes.

Alpesh Ramjan, 29(19) not out, and Dinesh Nakrani, 14(22) not out, are the other two players who hit double digits to guide Laurence Mahtlane's side to a six-wicket win after posting 116/4 in 13 overs.

Botswana's Karabo Motlhanka's 45(45), Ameer Saiyed's 20(12) and Thatayaone Tshose 13(17) managed double figures but were unable to turn the tide for the better.

"They started well with the bat, so we had to fight back and fight back well; I thought we were outstanding at the back ends of the innings restricting Botswana," Mahatlane noted.

"In the middle overs, we bowled ten overs for 39 runs, so good work by the spinners and bowlers; from the batting point of view.”

“We lost four wickets, but I thought we had the intensity and aggression which I want us to maintain,” Mahatlane added.

Bilal Hassan was named the player of the match and next up for Brian Masaba and his squad is Kenya on Saturday at the same venue. The hosts also started off with a three wicket win over Rwanda.
