CAF Champions League Another heartbreak in Tanzania, as Simba bow to Al Ahly

Simba, like the case was at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium last week, failed to capitalize on their chances.

Record-holders and defending champions Al Ahly defeated and eliminated Simba 3-0 on aggregate to qualify for the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

The Red Devils had claimed a 1-0 win over Simba last week away from home to put one foot in the competition’s next round, and they managed to seal it on Friday in Cairo, Egypt.

The first half saw Al Ahly fail to create any real threat on goal with Simba coming close to finding the breakthrough before being denied by Mostafa Shobeir at the stroke of half-time.

Simba, like the case was at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium last week, failed to capitalize on their chances.

Al Ahly then managed to take the lead as Anthony Modeste’s pass was met with a thunderous strike from Amr El-Sulya two minutes into the second half.

A late penalty dispatched by Mahmoud Kahraba sealed the deal for Al Ahly as their quest for a second consecutive Champions League title continues.

They are now set to meet the winner between Petro Atletico de Luanda and TP Mazembe in the semi-finals next month.

Simba joins fellow country mates Young Africans SC, who were dumped out by Mamelodi Sundowns via a 3-2 post-match penalty shootout victory.
