Uganda Cranes assistant captain Khalid Aucho featured for the entire game as he marshalled the midfield, intercepting various Namungo FC attacks, while compatriot Gift Fred only made the bench.

Young Africans required a late winner to earn maximum points in their NBC Premier League game against Namungo FC, a side coached by Yanga's former assistant coach last season, Cedric Kaze.

Midfielder Yahaya Mudathir scored the all-important goal with two minutes to full time.

On Wednesday night, he slotted home Ivorian Kouassi Attohoula Yao's cross from the right to send the home capacity crowd into wild celebrations at the Chamanzi complex.

Head coach Angel Miguel Gamondi highlighted his side's struggles, including a slow tempo and wrong decisions, but welcomed the maximum points.

"We controlled the game but played slow and made wrong decisions," Gamondi noted in the post-game interview.

"Maybe the players were a bit tired, but the most important thing at the end of the day is to win; we can't drop points at home."

"We now head back to training as we prepare for our next game against Al Merrikh in the CAF CL," he added.

The win helped Khalid Aucho's side maintain a perfect league start of three straight league wins, scoring 11 goals without conceding.

With a 2-0 aggregate first-leg lead in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round, Young Africans will be expected to seal qualification to the CAF Champions League group stages.

If they do, it will be the first time since 1998 when they face Sudanese side Al Merrikh in the return leg on 30th September at the Chamanzi complex.
