Lukaku’s international exploits also mean that he has now scored more goals than Zambia’s Godfrey Chitalu, recognised as the African player with the most goals for his country with 79 goals in 111 matches.

In addition to Lukaku’s four goals, Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard also got on the scoresheet to wrap up a comfortable victory for Belgium against Azerbaijan.

Belgium have booked a place in next year’s European Championships in Germany, after an undefeated qualifying campaign that saw them win six and draw two of their eight matches, with Lukaku scoring 13 goals for them.
