Sebwalunyo is expected to fill the big gloves of Simon Tamale who left Maroons for Rayon Sports in Rwanda.

Maroons Football Club has completed the transfer of goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo on a two-year deal from URA FC ahead of the 2023/24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The club announced the arrival of the goalkeeper on Wednesday ahead of their FUFA Super 8 fixture against SC Villa on Thursday.

“Many Clubs have been monitoring him in the recent past, so bringing him here is really good news for the Club,” Maroons head coach Mohammed Senfuma said after the unveiling.

Replacement

Sebwalunyo returns to the club to fill the void left by Simon Tamale, who left for Rwandan Premier League side Rayon Sports.

Tamale was voted the best goalkeeper in the league last season and was nominated for the best player of the season, which he lost to Milton Karisa.

Coach Senfuma believes Sebwalunyo will fill the void as they look to replicate or, even better, the form that saw them finish in the top eight last season.

“He is a good goalkeeper we have watched closely since he was here with us before; we feel he is a perfect replacement for Tamale,” Senfuma added.

The goalkeeper joined URA from the prison Warders in September 2020 on a three-year deal. He had previously played for BUL in his top-flight debut.

However, the goalkeeper struggled for playing time, forcing the club to send him on loan back to BUL in 2021.

A request to extend the loan deal at the start of the 2021/22 season fell through after the Tax Collectors recalled him to fill a void left by injuries.
