The group of young boys has pitched camp at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka with the hope of sharpening their talons.

The national men's rugby Under 20 side, Chipu has stepped up their preparations ahead of the World Rugby U20 Trophy scheduled for Saturday 15 to Sunday 30 July at the Nyayo Stadium.

The 39-man squad of young boys has pitched camp at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka with the hope of sharpening their skills as they prepare to face off against Samoa, Hong Kong, China, and Spain in Pool B.

Team Manager Paul Mutai has maintained that everything is on course and the young squad is psyched up.

“The team has been preparing well as we work towards next month’s tournament. We have retained a core of the squad that was selected for the Barthes U20 Trophy.

"However, there are six new call-ups to the wider training squad that will be whittled down to the final squad of 28 ahead of the tournament,” Mutai said.

The six new players include Ian Nyandusi, Spencer Tayghan, Anthony Okoyo, Rodgers Omanyi, Nickson Shevei and Victor Wabuto.

This marks Chipu's third appearance in the tournament as it returns to the country for the first time since 2009. They also participated in the 2019 edition of the tournament.

The young squad, coming from a defeat during the Barthes Trophy where they finished second, will be looking for redemption when they take on their tough opponents.
