For years, sports and education had coexisted under a single ministry, but entertainment was relegated to a mere desk within the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to announce the formation of a new ministry that combines the realms of sports and entertainment, Pulse Sports has learnt.

According to sources, the merger of these two sectors comes after a persuasive proposal, and it is expected to bring about significant changes in Uganda's governance structure.

The most significant consequence of this merger is the dissolution of the Ministry of Education and Sports.

For years, sports and education had coexisted under a single ministry, but entertainment was relegated to a mere desk within the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development.

This new move signifies a profound shift in the recognition and importance given to the world of sports and entertainment.

The catalyst for this transformation can largely be attributed to the National Sports Act of 2023, which now officially recognizes sports as a viable business sector.

In contrast, under the archaic National Sports Act of 1964, sports was primarily defined as physical education, lacking the commercial and entertainment dimensions that have since become integral to the industry.

Furthermore, reports are circulating that within the newly formed Ministry of Sports and Entertainment, Hon. Peter Ogwang, the current State Minister for sports, will be elevated to the position of a Cabinet Minister.

Alongside him, there will be a junior minister with a background in entertainment, signifying a commitment to promoting sports and entertainment on equal footing within Uganda's governmental structure.

This historic merger promises to bring forth exciting opportunities for Uganda's sports and entertainment industries, marking a new chapter in their development.

Sports lovers who have long advocated for a ministry away from education will eagerly anticipate the positive changes that will follow the formation of this groundbreaking ministry.
