Netball Uncertainty looms over resumption of Uganda Netball Super League

The women's Netball League is supposed to climax in May, and it is around the same time that the She Cranes are meant to travel to South Africa for the Netball World Cup.

Earlier this year, the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) indefinitely suspended the Netball Super League due to financial constraints.

It was later learned that the league would resume a fortnight ago on February 11, 2023, which did not happen.

According to the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Michael Katende, the league will not restart anytime soon.

"We wrote to the federation and informed them that we had run out of finance and we were not going to continue in this situation because the umpires were not willing to work," Katende told Pulse Sports in an interview.

"That is how the league was suspended, and then a new date was set, but still, the financial challenges were not sorted out, so we could not return to work on February 11."

Katende noted, "And there is no progress from the side of the federation, and therefore I do not expect the league to resume anytime soon."

In the latest development, the UNF Annual General Assembly is set to take place on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Sky View Hotel in Fort Portal. But Katende does not think a way forward for the resumption of the league will be reached.

"Everyone is saying that they are waiting for the Annual General Assembly, but I do not see it yielding something positive at the moment," he stated.

"We did not restart on February 11, so everything will remain in doubt until maybe we finally get going again, but I am not sure, which is why we cannot even release the fixtures."
