Marvin Odongo’s charges defeated BOKS 41-00 in their first game before demolishing Stallions 43-03 before ending the day in defeat, following a shock 10-07 loss to Toyota Buffaloes.

The third round of the Nile Special Sevens Series claimed no big scalps as all the top four sides cruised to the knock-out stages of the tournament.

Table leaders and Rujumba Sevens hosts Stanbic Black Pirates ran over two of their opponents in Group A to progress to the quarter-finals unscathed.

Now on 44 points and enjoying the view from the top, the Pirates will go into their home circuit, the Rujumba Sevens, as overwhelming favourites for maximum points.

With the results, the league champions will now face off with Mulago Rams in the main cup quarter-final as they look to win their third circuit in a row.

Kobs started the day with a commanding 38-00 win over Sailors before a close 24-14 win over Plascon Mongers and a 27-14 victory over the Walukuba Barbarians.

The Legends outfit will now take on Rhinos in the second quarter-final of the main cup.

Having helped Pirates to the Nile Special Rugby Premier League title in his first season as head coach, Odongo will be looking to add the Sevens trophy as well as the Uganda Cup later this year.

Meanwhile, Heathens remained perfect after Day One, defeating MUBS 34-00 in the first game and scrapping past Rams in the second.

A 17-12 victory over Makerere Impis closed the day for the Yellow Machine to set up a quarter-final meeting with Buffaloes.

Defending champions Jinja Hippos, with three wins from Day One, will face Mongers in the quarter-final.

Having lost the Kitgum Sevens to Pirates, the Jinja-based side started the Rujumba Sevens in style, defeating Kyambogo 24-00, Warriors (33-00) and Rhinos (12-05).

Day Two of the tournament will be expected to be intense, with all the top teams fighting for points in the third of seven circuits on the calendar.
