Soita has predominantly coached women’s teams in the past, OBB Ladies and UCU Lady Doves being the most recent he has managed.

OBB Ladies head coach Protus Soita has been named the new coach of the Uganda Volleyball Cranes ahead of the African Nations Championship.

The Kenyan tactician will replace Shilla Omuriwe Buyungo, who guided Uganda to fifth place at the last championship in 2021.

Soita has predominantly coached women’s teams in the past, OBB Ladies and UCU Lady Doves being the most recent he has managed.

“He has the qualities to do well as our head coach,” Uganda Volleyball Federation Technical Director Tonny Lakony told Pulse Sports.

“He is a calm character and will have assistants to help him out,” he added.

Soita’s appointment means that Omuriwe’s reign lasted just one tournament.

Soita is a Level Two coach and will have his work cut out as Uganda looks to better the 2021 performance.

KAVC head coach Memory Dube and KCCA Ladies Volleyball Club assistant coach will deputise Soita as the first and second assistant, respectively.

The African Nations Championship is set to run between September 1 to 15 in Cairo, Egypt.

With the UVF focusing on the women’s team that started training in April, it is not clear when the men will assemble to begin their preparations.
