Uganda got out of the blocks early and took the first set 25-10 before limiting Lesotho to five points in the second frame.

Following Uganda’s 3-0 demolition of Lesotho in their first game of the 2023 CAVB Women’s African Nations Championship, head coach Tonny Lakony has expressed shock and surprise by the opponent’s poor show.

Speaking after the game, the Uganda tactician revealed the Southern Africa side didn’t no compete to give the Lady Cranes a test.

“The opponent didn’t quite show up as we expected them to, maybe because of our level and pressure we put on them,” Lakony said.

“I am happy that we had a good performance all round, and it gives us confidence going into the next game,” he added.

Uganda got out of the blocks early and took the first set 25-10 before limiting Lesotho to five points in the second frame.

The Lady Cranes then capped the afternoon by taking the third set 25-10 to register their first win of the tournament being held in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Uganda is making a return to the continental showpiece for the first time since 2009 and will be looking to improve their ranking, having finished ninth the last time out.

Pooled in Group B, Uganda must be in the top four sides to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Next on the schedule for Uganda is a clash with Morocco on Wednesday.
