Uganda fell 3-0 to Egypt in the quarter-final of the continental showpiece on Tuesday and will now focus on fighting for Position Five in the Classification Games.

Uganda Volleyball Lady Cranes head coach Tonny Lakony might be disappointed his side are out of contention for the CAVB Women’s Africa Nations Volleyball Championship, but he believes the experience will help Uganda in the long run.

Uganda fell 3-0 to Egypt in the quarter-final of the continental showpiece on Tuesday and will now focus on fighting for Position Five in the Classification Games.

“The game was ok, but we couldn’t be consistent enough,” Lakony told Pulse Sports.

“We made so many sloppy handling errors, and Egypt was very good in court defence,” he added.

Egypt rushed through the game by taking the first set 25-13, the second 25-18 and the third 25-11 to progress to the semi-finals.

Uganda lost middle blocker Jenniffer Alungat to an ankle injury suffered midway through the second set.

“It was yet another good experience for the team,” Lakony said.

Uganda had previously lost to Kenya and Rwanda in their Group B games with the same scoreline but defeated Lesotho, Morocco and Burkina Faso to reach the Final Eight.

The Lady Cranes will now face Algeria, who lost 3-2 to Rwanda in the quarter-final, as the two sides start a chase for fifth place.

Uganda’s best ranking before this tournament was ninth place registered in the 2009 competition held in Nairobi, Kenya.
