The Malkia Strikers took the first set 25-15 and despite a spirited fight by Uganda in the second frame, it was still the nine-time champions who raced into a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 triumph.

Uganda Volleyball Lady Cranes unbeaten run at the ongoing CAVB Women's African Nations Championship came to an end following a 3-0 loss to Kenya Friday afternoon.

Having started the tournament with two victories over Lesotho and Morocco, the Lady Cranes were brought down to earth by the Malkia Strikers.

The East African derby turned out one-sided as the Kenyans ran away with game to inflict Uganda’s first loss in three games.

Tonny Lakony’s charges struggled to settle into the game as Kenya set the pace early.

Libero Margaret Namyalo, Catherine Ainembabazi and Eunice Amuron struggled to get the right first pass when Kenya paced their service.

The Malkia Strikers took the first set 25-15 and despite a spirited fight by Uganda in the second frame, it was still the nine-time champions who raced into a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 triumph.

The record was set straight when Kenya took the third frame 25-16 to show their might against a new-look Ugandan side.

The win was Kenya’s third of the campaign without dropping a set while Uganda’s celebrations of a 3-2 win over Morocco on Thursday were cut short by the reality check.

Uganda will return to action Saturday afternoon in a clash against Rwanda.
