The duo, making their first starts for the national side, guided Mahatlane's side to an eight-wicket victory against Rwanda on Sunday afternoon.

Cricket Cranes head coach Laurence Mahatlane has credited debutants Robinson Obuya and Nsubuga Siraje for their performance at the Africa Continental Cup T20 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The duo, making their first starts for the national side, guided Mahatlane's side to an eight-wicket victory against Rwanda on Sunday afternoon.

Robinson Obuya's 33(19) made him the highest runs scorer on the day, while Roger Mukasa put up a 25 not out.

A man-of-match performance from Henry Ssenyondo, who picked up 3(12), was supplemented with Siraje Nsubuga's 3(22), which impressed Mahatlane.

"The boys played well; we knew what to do, so I am happy about the overall performance; I am also happy for Obuya and Siraje," Mahatlane said.

"Siraje picked up three wickets while Obuya hit 33(19), it was a good show from both of them, and I am sure they will get more opportunities against Rwanda and Botswana as the tournament goes on," he added.

Obuya says it was a chat with team captain Brian Masaba before the game that motivated him to put up a good debut performance.

"It was an honour to represent Uganda; the wicket looked good and had a good bounce, so it just needed me to play my natural game."

"I had a chat with my captain Brian Masaba who encouraged me, and that's why I did my best," Obuya added.

Siraje Nsubuga also needed a pat on the shoulder from veteran Franko Nsubuga before he picked up his three wickets.

"I am delighted that I represented my country; at the beginning, I was so nervous, but senior Frank encouraged me to focus; that's how I was able to do well," Siraje revealed.

The Cricket Cranes, who have managed two wins in games days, take a day off on Monday but return to action on Tuesday against Kenya.
