Second placed Heathens, meanwhile, defeated Plascon Mongers 53-15 in Entebbe to keep Kobs within touching distance.

The top three teams in the Nile Special Rugby Premier League all recorded maximum points on Women’s Day to ensure the battle for the title stretches to the second round.

Kobs, Heathens and Pirates occupy the top three slots on the ten-team log, and are separated by a single point after nine games of the first round.

Brian Makalama’s charges concluded their Round One action with a convincing 66-03 pummeling of Makerere Impis at the Graveyard.

Emmanuel Ecodu produced a man of the match performance with a hattrick of tries to help Kobs to yet another high scoring game and a bonus point victory.

It was a try party for the Legends outfit with Joseph Aredo, Byron Oketayot, Conrad Mukwaya, Daudi Ssemwami, Trevor Maina and Josiah Sempeke all getting in on the scoring to hand Impis a fourth straight defeat.

The win is Kobs’ eighth and ensured the 2021 champions hit the 40-point mark with another nine games to come in the second round.

Second placed Heathens, meanwhile, defeated Plascon Mongers 53-15 in Entebbe to keep Kobs within touching distance.

The two sides are tied on 40 points but it is the Blue Army with a better points difference.

Lawrence Ssebuliba was the man of the match in Entebbe as the defending champions cruised to their eighth win of the season.

Ssebuliba’s pace was a handful for the hosts and he eased to a hattrick of tries to keep Muhammad Athiyo’s side on course.

Scot Oluoch, Santos Ssenteza and Claude Otema all chipped in with tries as Heathens left Entebbe with all five points.

Brian Odongo’s Stanbic Black Pirates were expected to have an easier day in office against Walukuba Barbarians in Jinja but the result points to a hard-fought victory.

The Sea Robbers got the bonus point with a 25-13 win but had to dig deep.

Sydney Gongodyo, Conrad Wanyama, Moses Zziwa and Solomon Banaawa all touched down for Pirates while Ivan Magomu added a conversion and penalty to seal the deal.

The victory ensured Pirates move to 39 points, one behind joint top Kobs and Heathens.

All focus will now turn to the second round that kicks off on Saturday at various grounds.
