Every rugby fan always looks forward to the Lions Cup and Heathens, Kobs is a fixture that brings Ugandan rugby to a standstill.

The two most successful and followed clubs in the Nile Special Rugby Premiership will square off on Saturday at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.

Heathens head coach Mohammad Athio agrees it’s the biggest game on the rugby calendar, and his side has prepared well.

“Heathens and Kobs facing off is the biggest game in the league,” Athio told Pulse Sports in a phone interview.

“We know what is at stake each time the two meet up, and the fans expect their money’s worth. So, hopefully, we make it happen,” he added.

Like the other clubs, the Heathens squad was depleted when the Uganda Rugby Sevens squad was summoned to prepare for the upcoming World Rugby Challenger series.

Captain Michael Wokorach, Fly Half Aaron Ofoywroth and Nobert Okenyi are the players absent ahead of the Lions Cup.

Still, Athio says he has been able to cope without them, although they are missed.

“I have been asked that a lot, and my answer is. Yes, we miss them, but we have managed to perform without them,” Athio noted.

“Last season, we won the league and Uganda Cup without them for most of the season, so we have a team that can compete, that’s for sure,” he added.

The Platinum Credit Heathens occupy the second spot on 54 points, one behind arch-rivals and table leaders Kobs, while the Stanbic Black Pirates sit third on 52 points.
