The Uganda Rugby Cranes Sevens started the second round of the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series in commanding fashion.

Tolbert Onyango's charges registered two wins over Brazil and Korea 7s in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

And with only one game left to play in Pool C, the Cranes look destined for yet another quarterfinal in the tournament.

The last pool game against Germany, the team that eliminated Uganda in last weekend's tournament, will offer a much tougher test than what Brazil and Korea provided on Day One.

Tries from Norbert Okeny, Aaron Ofoyrwoth, Michael Wokorach and Allan Omoding were enough for the African champions to overcome Brazil in their opening game.

Uganda found themselves on the back foot at the start of the game and needed a response to bounce back and win the game.

In the end, the 31-07 score line suggests it was an easy ride, but Brazil were a hard nut to crack early in the game and were level (07-07) going into the halftime break.

But Uganda were simply too good and blew away the South American side in the second half to start the tournament on a high.

In the second game against Korea, a brace from captain Michael Wokorach and a try each from Adrian Kasito and Aaron Tukei were enough to give the team a 26-07 victory.

The World Challenger Series provides a pathway to the HSBC World Rugby Series Circuit, something Uganda has been pushing to get to since 2017 when they played in the World Series Qualifier in Hong Kong.

The competition's winner will be decided on aggregate points over the two events, and enter a four-team playoff at the HSBC London Sevens in May, together with the teams placed 12th to 14th after 10 rounds of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2023.

The winner of the playoff will then achieve the coveted Sevens World Series 2024 status.
