And playing with six men for three quarters of the game did not help matters for the three-time African champions.

Uganda Rugby Cranes Sevens have yet again failed to get past the quarter-final stage of the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series.

The Cranes found themselves a man down in the first half and fell 26-14 to Germany Friday afternoon in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Uganda were reduced to six after Adrian Kasito was sent to the sin bin early in the first half.

Uganda absorbed the German pressure and forced a penalty to clear their lines.

Aaron Ofoyrwoth found touch but lost the resultant line out as Germany pressed hard for the opening try.

Moments after returning from the sin bin, Kasito was penalised for a tip tackle and got a second yellow to leave Tolbert Onyango’s charges a man down for the rest of the game.

From the resultant penalty, Germany chose a scrum and swung the ball to score the game’s opening try.

Uganda were still in it and found gaps in the Germany defence to score after the hooter for halftime had gone.

Aaron Ofoyrwoth converted his own try for the Cranes to lead 07-05 at the half.

Germany had the numerical advantage, and it would eventually count in the latter stages of the game.

At the start of the second half, Ian Munyani recovered the ball from Ofoyrwoth’s kickoff and handed it to Timothy Kisiga for Uganda’s second try.

Ofoyrwoth converted, and Uganda led 14-05, but Germany responded immediately to close the gap to 14-12.

A contentious third try for Germany after what appeared like a knock-on by the European side deflated the African champions.

The Europeans added another try to win 26-14 and progress to book a place in Saturday’s semi-final.

Onyango had set the target of making it past the quarter-final stage, but that will not happen.

Uganda had cruised through Pool C with maximum points after comprehensive wins over Brazil, Jamaica and Korea 7s, but Germany was always going to be a much tougher test.

And playing with six men for three quarters of the game did not help matters for the three-time African champions.
