Opposite Jonathan Tumukunde, who joined the club from Nemostars, was the first to depart and is expected to join league champions Sport-S after just one season with OBB.

OBB dominated last year’s transfer window by making huge signings to defend the National Volleyball League title and make further progress in cementing their place on top of the game.

But 12 months later, the same names that were switching to the Iganga-based side are on their way out in search of greener pastures.

Opposite Jonathan Tumukunde, who joined the club from Nemostars, was the first to depart and is expected to join league champions Sport-S after just one season with OBB.

The club’s struggles last season have been tied to financial constraints, and more players are now rumoured to want out of the project.

The next player to depart is receiver-attacker Brian Atuhaire, who also joined last season from Sport-S.

The 25-year-old was in and out of the team but is now headed for the exit, as announced by OBB.

“Your new team is lucky to have you on board. We, the Eastern giants, wish you success with your new family, Brian Atuhaire,” OBB communicated through their Twitter handle.

Another key player of OBB’s title-winning side, Cosmas Elijah Apunyo, is also rumoured to be on the move and trying to find a new home in the Burundian capital Bujumbura.

Apunyo played a significant role in OBB’s success in 2022 and was still one of their best players in 2023.

He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the Nkumba Open 2022, the only tournament OBB won in the season.

It remains to be seen how many more players will depart, with 15 days left in the transfer market.
