Sport-S stretched their National Volleyball League unbeaten run to 13 games after a 3-1 victory over defending champions OBB on Saturday.

Samuel Engwau struck through the middle for the game's first point as Sport-S made their intentions clear early.

The early stages of the first set were evenly balanced, with Cosmas Apunyo and Kelvin Kiplagat leading OBB’s offensive charge.

But when Johnson Rukundo went through the Block for Sport-S to lead 16-13, OBB needed a timeout.

It was, however, Sport-S that continued to break away.

Marino Oboke and Engwau combined to block Kiplagat and stretch the lead to 20-15.

Johnson Kawenyera needed another time-out when Thon Maker tore through the block to make it 22-15, but that could not stop the bleeding.

Jonathan Tumukunde rose over the block, but his powerful attack went out of bounds for Sport-S to take the first set 25-17.

The table leaders carried the same momentum into the second set and relied on Engwau’s net defense to suffocate OBB’s offense.

Apunyo, usually effective from the service box, struggled for momentum all game, with Sport-S getting the right first pass.

Sport-S took the second set 25-20 to create a two-set cushion and leave the defending champions with work.

With their backs against the wall, OBB stepped up in the third frame and led 12-07 to force Sport-S into a timeout.

Apunyo and Kiplagat found a rhythm on offense and troubled Sport-S’ net defense.

Benon Mugisha was forced into changes, and Dickens Otim replaced Emmanuel Okia to steady the ship in the middle.

Otim blocked Kiplagat to see OBB’s six-point advantage extinguished late in the third set.

Augustine Odongo attacked the line, but the ball landed for OBB to take the set 25-23.

Sport-S made sure of maximum points by taking the fourth set 25- to remain unbeaten.

The win takes the table leaders to 38 points with five games to play in the regular season.

OBB remain third on the log with 27 points.
