The changes will now see Sport-S, who went on a 17-game unbeaten streak before losing 3-1 to UCU, facing the defending champions in a mouth-watering best-of-three series.

National Volleyball League champions OBB have been preparing to face KAVC in the first semi-final of the men’s playoffs but must change notes and now prepare for Sport-S.

This is after a technical mistake that was made by the Sports Organizing Commission that brought out the wrong final regular season standings.

The standings released after the conclusion of the regular season had Sport-S on top of the log, KAVC in second place, while OBB and UCU Doves followed in that order.

This meant that table leaders Sport-S would face fourth-placed UCU while second-placed KAVC would take on the defending champions in third place.

The SOC should have noticed that UCU, with a 13-5 record, should have been in third place, ahead of OBB, whose record stands at 12-6.

“Following feedback received from some managers regarding Serie A -Men’s final table standings released by our Sports Organising Commission (SOC), the executive called for a review of the table standing leading up to the playoffs stage,” a communication released by Uganda Volleyball Federation Thursday night, read.

The letter adds: “The exercise conducted by SOC involved re-computation of OBB and UCU’s points including those won and lost plus their respective points ratio; producing an updated table standings dated 30th March 2023. Consequently, the playoffs fixtures have been amended to reflect the changes. All teams affected have already been contacted and are ready to play this weekend.”

“We regret this unfortunate incident and apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We would like to also appreciate the vigilance exhibited by those members who took time to review the regular table standings released by SOC.”

The changes will now see Sport-S, who went on a 17-game unbeaten streak before losing 3-1 to UCU, facing the defending champions in a mouth-watering best-of-three series.

OBB defeated Sport-S 2-0 in last year’s semi-finals but have suffered at the hands of the Nsambya outfit this season, losing the two regular season ties and also falling in the National Club Championship final.

To defend the title, OBB must get past a Sport-S side that has been dominant throughout the regular season.

Meanwhile, UCU Doves, the only team to have beaten Sport-S this season, must now deal with a KAVC side that dismissed them in straight sets in their first game of the season.

Led by Gideon Angiro, the university side is expected to cause some problems.
