Nigeria Super Eagles will compete at the AFCON2023 without Real Sociedad star Umar Sadiq.

Nigeria’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON2023, have been thrown into further disarray after striker Umar Sadiq became the latest star to pull out.

Pulse Sports Nigeria can report that the Super Eagles face a mounting injury crisis, with the Real Sociedad forward joining the list of players on the sidelines.

Sadiq exits AFCON

According to a post from Nigerian journalist, Mike The Pundit, the 26-year-old will return to his club following an injury.

The Real Sociedad man became the latest Nigerian after Bayer Leverkusen man, Victor Boniface, to exit the AFCON2023 due to a knee problem.

“Super Eagles have suffered another late injury blow leading up to #AFCON2023 as Real Sociedad striker Sadiq Umar has now also pulled OUT of the tournament,” the post on X stated.

“Officials said he will now return to Spain to be attended to by his club medics,” the post added.

Sadiq was conspicuously missing as the Super Eagles trained in Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday ahead of their opener against Equatorial Guinea on Monday.

The former Roma man is expected to be out for at least three weeks, with the Super Eagles coaching crew yet to announce if they will call a replacement or not.
