Virgil van Dijk has reacted to Liverpool fans jeering Trent Alexander-Arnold against Arsenal.

Virgil van Dijk believes that the attention surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold's upcoming departure from Liverpool will not overshadow the club's Premier League title celebrations.

Having announced his Anfield exit recently, the right-back was booed by several fans when Arsenal visited Merseyside on Sunday

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol criticised the supporters who opted for that reaction, disclosing his disgust, but Van Dijk did not reprimand the match-going fans.

What Van Dijk said

Speaking after the 2-2 draw, the Dutchman told reporters that while the reaction occurred and Alexander-Arnold has to deal with it, the team also needs to.

“It shouldn’t (overshadow the title celebrations). There are a lot more players that also deserve an amazing day. I don’t think it will,” said Van Dijk.

“The reaction happened. He has to deal with it. We as a team have to deal with that as well, by the way. But I think maybe he expected this. We have two more games and then we part ways and he will go somewhere else.

“I wasn’t really expecting anything. It’s not easy, not at all. We’re here for him. We are gutted that he’s not here with us next year because he’s a fantastic player in my opinion, with outstanding, exceptional qualities that we have all been seeing over the last seven years I’ve been here. We’re definitely going to miss him when he’s gone.”

Liverpool have now gone winless since claiming the Premier League title, losing at Chelsea and blowing a 2-0 lead in Sunday's draw with Arsenal, which saw the Reds unable to claim an eighth straight league victory at Anfield.
