Players who ply their trade abroad are rarely dropped, and Anaku is in contention to mark his Uganda Cranes debut at least in one of the two games.

Just like any other player would be, Sadat Anaku was elated when he crossed borders and joined the paid ranks in Scotland with Scottish Premiership side Dundee United FC.

The move from KCCA FC to Dundee would catalyze his dream of playing for the Uganda Cranes was a highlight in his first interview with the club last year.

"I dream of playing for the national team. I have never been at that level, but I see this (move to United) as a greater platform to reach those levels."

Anaku added: "Playing professional football here is a step ahead for me and hopefully gives me that chance to play for the national team."

The 22-year-old is on the verge of making his dream come true, he was summoned to the Cranes squad ahead of the forthcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification double header against Tanzania.

This week, Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Micho Sredojevic invited 30 players to begin preparations, but the Serbian coach will gradually reduce that number.

Players who ply their trade abroad are rarely dropped, and Anaku is in contention to mark his Uganda Cranes debut at least in one of the two games.

He will be vying to get the starting berth with Steven Mukwala and Fahad Bayo, should Micho prefer using him as a center forward.

Or with captain Emmanuel Okwi and fellow Rogers Mato, Travis Mutyaba, and Rogers Mugisha on the wing.

Anaku is yet to score a goal for this Scottish club but has had an impact in some of the games he has featured in.

Last weekend, he came off the bench and won a penalty for Dundee's goal in their 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen.

Uganda will host its neighbours Tanzania Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Egypt on March 24 before the second game at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam four days later.

Uganda and Tanzania are tied on a single point after two games in Group F, which also has Niger and Algeria, who are on two and six points, respectively.

The doubleheader is crucial for both East African countries as they continue to chase a ticket to next year's AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.
