Arsenal Legend Kelvin Campbell has made a concern statement regarding the Gunners' defence after squandering a two-goal lead in back-to-back games.

The Gunners failed to secure a win against Liverpool and West Ham after going two goals up in the game. They lost four points from both games as the gap on the league table was reduced to four points.

Campbell has now spoken about what the Gunners are missing in their defence as he made it known that the absence of Willam Saliba has cost them four points in two games.

Saliba has shown quality of top level

Arsenal defender Willam Saliba has been unavailable for the Gunners since he picked up a back injury against Sporting CP.

Rob Holding has come into the team to deputise for the French man but Campbell has said he does not have the quality level Saliba brings to Arsenal.

Kevin Campbell speaking in an interview, said, “Let’s be brutally honest here, if Tomiyasu was fit, who’s to say Ben White doesn’t go alongside Gabriel, and Tomiyasu plays right-back.

“That’s no disrespect to Rob Holding, because I think Holding’s done all right. But, Saliba has shown at this level, he’s a cut above and we miss him so much.”

Saliba better than Holding

Campbell made mention of some of Saliba’s qualities that Holding lacks which has caused Arsenal’s defence fragility.

Still speaking, he said, “Not only his presence there, because he can deal with Antonio, he can deal with long balls, he’s quick, he covers the ground.

“On the ball, he makes us start and tick from the back, which is so important when Rob Holding’s nowhere near as good as Saliba on the ball.

“Saliba will drop a shoulder, and then play a ball into midfield so somebody can get it and turn. Rob Holding just hasn’t got that in his locker.”

Arsenal will welcome Southampton to the Emirate Stadium on Friday night as they hope to go seven points clear of City who will play in the FA Cup semi-final.
