Serie A champions SSC Napoli have welcomed Victor Osimhen back from AFCON 2023.

Napoli’s star man Victor Osimhen is back in training with the Serie A champions after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Osimhen was on duty with Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the 34th AFCON but is now back in Italy to help Napoli salvage their season.

The 24-year-old posed for a photo on Napoli’s Instagram page and looked happy to be back with his teammates in Naples.

Osimhen helped Nigeria to an impressive journey at the recently concluded AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles came just short of the main prize following a painful defeat to the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, in the tournament's final game.

William Troost-Ekong saw his towering header cancelled by second half goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller to give Ivory Coast the AFCON title for the third time in their history.

The African Footballer of the Year, Osimhen, managed just a goal as the Super Eagles failed in their goal to do it again at Africa’s biggest stage.

He will be eager to rediscover his form upon his return to the Italian league where he endured a difficult run before he joined Nigeria for the trip to the AFCON 2023.

The Napoli top scorer last season has scored seven goals and assisted two more in 13 matches this season for the club.

But the goals have not translated to points for the Serie A defending champions, who sit 10th on the table after 23 matches.

Osimhen led Napoli to the title last season for the first time in 33 years, but the club has struggled to put up a solid defence this campaign.

His goals could prove crucial for Napoli ahead of the business end of the season and Osimhen looks poised to propel the club towards a spot in the Champions League at least.
