Barcelona's Vice President, Rafael Yuste, apologised to Vinicius Junior over a tweet made by a Blaugrana board member.

Barcelona’s vice president Rafa Yuste has apologised to Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior over a flagrant tweet put out by the club’s director and spokesperson, Mikel Camps.

What happened

During the Champions League clash between Los Blancos and Braga yesterday, Camps, who is a member of the Barcelona board of directors, reportedly put out the following tweet:

“It is not racism; he deserves a slap for being a clown. What do these unnecessary and meaningless bicycle kicks represent in the centre of the field?”

Vinicius was the victim of another racist incident in LALIGA last weekend, as clips show persons from the crowd making monkey gestures at the Brazilian international.

He put out a statement denouncing the act, which has once again sparked conversations on racism in Spain.

Camps does not seem to empathise with the winger; instead, his tweet suggested he was irritated by Vinicius’s antics and even suggested violence.

Barcelona VP apologises

The Real Madrid hierarchy are said to be displeased by Camps’ tweet, with the club’s president, Florentino Perez, said to have decided to boycott this weekend’s El Clasico due to the incident.

Barcelona has yet to put out a statement addressing the issue, but the club’s VP, Yuste, has now apologised to the player.

"Statements of a Barça directive about Vinícius? Even if it's a mistake, it doesn't have to be done. It's an unfortunate tweet. If you're listening to me, Víni, it won't happen again,” Yuste said, per Football Espana.

Meanwhile, Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala scored a brace in Barcelona’s 6-1 demolition of Granada, and she dedicated one of the goals to the late Afrobeats star Mohbad.
