Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has been linked to jobs back home in South Africa in recent days and there is a new update regarding his future in Kenya.

Amid reports linking him to jobs back home in South Africa, Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy’s future in Kenya has become a subject of discussion.

McCarthy has been linked to his former club Orlando Pirates, who are looking for a coach following the departure of Spanish tactician Jose Riveiro, even though he has been in the job for a little over two months.

The South African legend signed a two-year contract as Kenya national team coach with his stint set to take him up to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which the country will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

However, his stay is being destabilised by the links to the Pirates job but according to latest reports, there is no worry that he will quit Kenya as he is committed to the Harambee Stars project.

"The links of Benni McCarthy going to Orlando Pirates, that's just rumours. I was with Benni yesterday and he is very very happy in Kenya,” South African outlet Soccer Laduma quoted a source who is close to McCarthy.

“These rumours about him leaving Harambee Stars have been circulating and they started in South Africa, not Kenya. He is happy and not leaving Harambee Stars.

"We met after the U20 Kenya team arrived from Egypt and Benni was assessing their performance. Benni is committed to Kenya."

The latest development will calm the nerves of Kenyan fans somewhat given how big the links to the Pirates job have been growing.

McCarthy has so far managed two games with Harambee Stars, a 3-3 draw away to The Gambia and a 2-1 home loss to Gabon in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March, and he is looking forward to the 2024 African Nations Championships set to be staged in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in August.
