Sources within the Benin FA have revealed that fruitful discussions between CAF and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have led to Nairobi being selected as the replacement host.

Kenya’s capital Nairobi is poised to strike a deal with African football governing body, CAF, as the host for the 45th CAF Ordinary General Assembly (OGA), following Benin's surprising withdrawal.

The Benin Football Federation (FBF) recently made the decision to relinquish its hosting duties, for the assembly, originally scheduled for 13th July 2023 in Cotonou, the capital city of Benin.

Sources within the Benin FA have revealed that fruitful discussions between CAF and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have led to Nairobi being selected as the replacement host.

Important to note that the previous Ordinary Assembly was hosted by Tanzania in Arusha, in August 2022. 

"Kenya expressed their keen interest in hosting the 45th CAF Ordinary General Assembly (OGA) after Benin's withdrawal through a formal letter," disclosed an insider from the Benin FA.

CAF has responded positively to Kenya's proposal, and ongoing discussions with the FKF are underway.

The announcement of a new date for the event is expected in the coming days, with both parties working diligently to ensure a seamless transition.

CAF has not only acknowledged the FKF's enthusiasm to step in but is also engaging with the Kenyan government and various stakeholders to guarantee a memorable and successful hosting experience for CAF's esteemed Member Associations in Nairobi.

Kenya’s together with neighbours Uganda and Tanzania have joined hands to bring the continent’s biggest football tournament to the region for the first time.

The East African bid, dubbed the Pamoja bid has already gained significant steam, and a successful execution of the General Assembly in Nairobi could further solidify the region's aspirations and bolster the credibility.

The CAF Ordinary General Assembly holds immense importance within the African football, bringing together representatives from CAF's Member Associations.
