Only five countries -Uganda, hosts Tanzania, Ethiopia, Burundi and Zanzibar- will take part in the inaugural CECAFA Women Under-18 championship.
After Rwanda pulled out at the last moment, CECAFA was forced to reorganize and change the format of the inaugural women’s under-18 tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, 25th July, inside the Azam Complex in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
Earlier on, the tournament had been postponed and later rescheduled, with the venue shifting to Tanzania after Kenya shunned the tournament.

CECAFA U18 W Uganda Crested Cranes trio to boost Women’s Under-18 team for CECAFA duty
Khalifa has summoned three players who were part of the Crested Cranes team that eliminated Rwanda from the first round of the Olympic 2024 qualifiers on Sunday.
Kenya confirmed they will not take place due to a tight schools schedule for their players, a reason that Rwanda has also given for shunning the games.
“Rwanda joins Kenya, who earlier withdrew their team because most of the players will be engaged in national examinations,” CECAFA announced Rwanda’s reason for shunning the tournament.
Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA competitions director, confirmed that only five teams will take part, so the tournament will be played in a round-robin format.
The five include Uganda, hosts Tanzania, Ethiopia, Burundi and Zanzibar.
Uganda start their campaign on Tuesday against Ethiopia and then Zanzibar on Thursday for this week.
