Inspired by the achievements of Maroons FC’s teenage sensation Darius Ojok, one Desmon Oyirwoth, a budding prospect with Paidha Black Angels, hopes to join top-flight football ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Paidha Black Angels last played in the 2018/19 Uganda Premier League before they were relegated to the lower division.

Boasting 16 assists and nine goals in 35 appearances since joining Paidha Black Angels in 2020, Oyirwoth believes he stands a decent chance in the upcoming trials at Maroons FC.

“You can see the way Maroons FC introduced (Darius) Ojok, and he instantly became a star,” the midfielder said.

“The head coach Mohammed Senfuma is giving young players opportunities to play a key role in the team, and I find this a great chance to play football in the Uganda Premier League.”

Darius Ojok poses with his Young Player of the Season 2022/23 Award at the Pilsner UPL Awards gala at Sheraton Hotel, Kampala recently.

“If I am selected, only the sky will be the limit,” Oyirwoth optimistically added.

Unknown to Ojok, Oyirowth, a midfielder with Paidha Black Angels, is inspired by his success and hopes to impress at Maroons FC’s upcoming trials starting July 17 for two consecutive weeks.

Maroon FC’s Ojok only made his debut for the Luzira-based team in February 2023, coming off the bench against Busoga United in a league match.

His first touch resulted in a goal triggering a drive for success as fate would have it.

At the recently concluded Pilsner – StarTimes Uganda Premier Awards, Ojok was crowned the ‘Best Youngest Player of the 2023/24 season.
