Emilio Nsue's hat-trick against Guinea Bissau puts him alongside some of the greatest players on the continent

Equatorial Guinea captain Emilio Nsue wrote his name in the AFCON history books after scoring a milestone hat-trick during the Nzalang Nacional’s 4-2 win over Guinea Bissau.

Nsue hat-trick beats 15-year jinx

Nsue's scoring spree began in the first half of the match, setting the tone for Equatorial Guinea's dominance with a 21st-minute goal.

Playing for Alicante-based Intercity in the Spanish third tier clearly has not slowed Nsue down, as he showed real quality to put Guinea Bissau to the sword with two more goals within the first 15 minutes of the second half to complete a remarkable hat-trick.

With his three strikes against Guinea Bissau, Emilio Nsue achieved a remarkable feat by scoring the first hat-trick in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) since 2008, when Soufiane Alloudi scored a treble against Namibia.

In addition to becoming the first player to score a hat-trick at AFCON for 15 years, Nsue also became the oldest player to hit three goals in one match at the age of 34 years and 110 days to help his side claim all three points against Guinea Bissau.

This win places Equatorial Guinea in a strong position within their group, enhancing their chances of progressing further in the tournament. Nsue's performance not only showcases his individual talent but also highlights the growing prowess of Equatorial Guinea in African football.
