Former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has slammed Manchester United's miscalculated moves since his 2022 departure

Ralf Rangnick has come out swinging against his former club, Manchester United, insisting they’ve gone backwards despite a staggering ₦1.6 trillion (£750 million) transfer outlay since his departure in 2022.

While United’s 3-0 win over Atletico Bilbao in the Europa League may have lifted spirits temporarily, the Austrian’s brutal comments bring fans crashing back to reality.

‘Open heart surgery’ warning comes full circle

During his six-month stint at Old Trafford, Rangnick famously said the club needed “open heart surgery” to recover its identity.

Fast forward to today, and he believes the operation never happened, just a reckless spending spree with no direction.

Speaking to Canal+ Austria, Rangnick pointed out that since his exit, United have spent heavily without success,

The Austrian tactician said, “In the end. That a few basic things need to be changed, and since then 700 or if not £750m has been spent on new players. And in the table, they are even significantly worse than back then.”

Currently 14th and enduring one of their worst-ever league campaigns, the Red Devils are flirting with historic failure.

Ragnick questions mismatched Amorim appointment

Rangnick also questioned the appointment of current Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, saying, “They have signed a coach in the middle of the season who plays with a three or a five-back, and the squad was built based on a four-back system.

“This is what you see when you see them play, especially in Premier League games against the opponents against which Manchester United normally has to win.”

Even minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently admitted that severe spending cuts are now necessary to avoid financial disaster. Despite being hounded out of Old Trafford, Rangnick will be satisfied knowing that his blunt assessments might be the only thing that’s aged well at the club.
