All clubs have secured 2023/24 licenses from FIB, except one penalised for not having a women's team.

All 18 Football Kenya Federation Premier League clubs have successfully overcome license hurdles and secured the greenlight to partake in the upcoming 2023/24 season.

The verdict comes from the Football Kenya Federation’s First Instance Body (FIB), an autonomous entity established collectively by all member associations of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

While the majority of clubs seamlessly met the licensing criteria, there is one exception that stands out.

According to a statement by FKF, although being granted a license to compete, FC Talanta received an accompanying sanction due to its failure in fulfilling a crucial criterion: the inclusion of a women’s team.

The licensing regulations explicitly mandate the presence of a women’s team, emphasising the importance of promoting gender equality and women's participation in football.

The process of club licensing covers five essential components: sporting, infrastructure, personnel, legal, and financial.

Successfully fulfilling the obligatory requisites within each of these categories is the primary step towards obtaining a license to participate in all domestic competitions. Equally important are the penalties that will be applied to clubs unable to fulfill these criteria.

The implementation of club licensing in Kenyan football is not only a local endeavour but also aligns with FIFA's global vision, the governing body of international football.

Embraced by numerous football confederations worldwide, this system aims to advance professionalism, improve governance, and foster the development of youth football.

Beyond mere enforcement, the FKF aims to leverage club licensing as a driving force for positive transformation within the football ecosystem.

By cultivating a culture of professionalism and responsibility, the federation aspires to attract potential sponsors, investors, and supporters, thereby fortifying the growth of football in the nation.
