However, recent developments revealed that Barcelona are yet to register Gavi’s new contract with LaLiga.

LaLiga blocked the registration in the wake of Barca's piling debt and worrying financial situation, and after the Blaugrana lost a court appeal over the decision, Gavi can now technically leave at the end of his current youth contract in June.

Despite this, Spanish outlet Relevo has reported that Barcelona are still confident of getting Gavi’s contract registered before his youth contract runs out in June.

The report also reveals that Gavi has informed Barcelona of his desire to stay at the club beyond the summer. He told the manager, Xavi, that he has no intention of leaving on a free transfer.

Big picture for Gavi and Barcelona

Prior to signing a new deal last year, Gavi showed his commitment to the Barcelona project by rejecting enticing advances from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including, Manchester City, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich.

It remains to be seen which of the aforementioned clubs will reignite their interest in the Spain international as the season draws to its conclusion.

Having awarded him the famed number six jersey earlier this season, the club confirmed they now see him as one of the pillars around which Xavi's Barcelona will be built.
