Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram praised Lamine Yamal’s Champions League heroics for Barcelona but stated that Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé are currently better players than the 17-year-old.

Is Lamine Yamal the best player in the world? The question has dominated football conversations after the 17-year-old Barcelona sensation delivered a masterclass performance in the Champions League semifinal thriller against Inter Milan.

Yamal scored a stunning goal, helping Barcelona come from behind to secure a dramatic 3-3 draw at home, further fueling debates about his status among the game’s elite.

However, Inter striker Marcus Thuram, who opened the scoring with a spectacular backheel in the same match, offered a different perspective when asked about Yamal’s place in world football.

Thuram insisted that, despite Yamal’s brilliance, the Barcelona prodigy is not yet the best player in the world.

According to the French forward, Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé and PSG’s Ousmane Dembélé are currently ahead of Yamal.

“No... The best player in the world is French. And the second best too,” Thuram was quoted by this post on X.

Marcus Thuram believes Mbappe and Dembele are ahead of Yamal.

“After that, Lamine Yamal... The best players are Dembélé and Mbappé,” Thuram added.

Yamal’s performance, marked by a dazzling dribble and a curling finish off the post, was a highlight in a match packed with spectacular goals from both sides.

The youngster completed the most dribbles (6), hit the woodwork twice, created two chances, one key pass and made four passes in the final third.

Yet, Thuram’s comments reflect the high standards and fierce competition at the top of the footballing world, even as Yamal continues to impress on the biggest stage.

The debate over who is truly the best continues, but for now, Thuram believes the crown still belongs to his compatriots.
