The Harambee Stars defender picked a yellow card in the 71st minute of the Group C opener

Kenyan international Joash Onyango started for Simba SC as they lost to Horoya Athletic Club in CAF Champions League Group C match on Saturday evening.

Senegalese Pope Abdou Ndiaye scored the lone goal that separated the two sides in the 18th minute of the match played at Stade General Lansana Conte in Conakry, Guinea.

Horoya started the game the better of the two teams, and Shomari Kapombe was lucky to see miscommunication between him and Henock Inonga go unpunished by Alseny Soumah in the fifth minute.

The HAC finally conjured a shot in the 10th minute of the match after an attempted clearance fell to Mory Kante inside the area.

The Guinea international made good contact with the ball but was unfortunate to see his rasping attempt hit the side-netting, not the back of the net.

Simba's first chance of the game fell to Jean Baleke six minutes later, but from a similar position, the striker also fired wide of goal.

Horoya duly opened the scoring in the 18th minute following a sustained spell of pressure.

The HAC nearly found their second in the 36th minute, but Onyango was quick to nick the ball from the legs of Douda Camara.

Captain John Bocco squandered two chances for Simba in the second half's early exchanges, with Moussa Camara doing exceptionally well to spare his own blushes on the hour mark.

The Horoya shot-stopper fumbled the initial shot but recovered well to deny Clatous Chama from giving Simba an equalizer lead from close range.

Onyango nearly caused damage to his team when he handled the ball in the 18-yard box, but goalkeeper Aisha Manula saved the penalty given.

Simba threw players forward in the final half hour, but they could not penetrate the back-four of the home side as the game ended 1-0.
