Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero has spoken of his admiration for Serie A champions Victor Osimhen, outlining the characteristics that make him special
Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero has lauded Napoli’s Scudetto hero Victor Osimhen after the Super Eagles forward helped the Partenopei to their first Serie A title since 1990.
Del Piero, himself a six-time Serie A champion with Juventus, spoke of his admiration for the Nigerian striker, who has been phenomenal for Napoli in a markedly historic season for the Naples club.
Del Piero in awe of Osimhen
After Osimhen’s 22nd league goal against Udinese clinched the 2022/23 Serie A title for Napoli, Del Piero spoke in glowing terms about Osimhen, outlining the characteristics which make the Nigerian forward one of the best in the world at the moment.

Del Piero told Sky Italia, “What more can be said about Osimhen, this extraordinary player, a symbol of the modern striker?”
“He has managed to improve during the season. He has some particular characteristics that I love, such as courage, determination, the hunger to score and to do well.
“It doesn’t matter whether he misses three chances or scores three goals, because he will start the very next move with the same level of determination.”
Del Piero credits Napoli and Spalletti for Osimhen’s brilliant season
The Juventus Hall of Fame inductee and 2008 Serie A top scorer was also keen to praise Osimhen’s manager Luciano Spalletti who he said has given Osmhen the environment to thrive and fully manifest.
Del Piero said, “It doesn’t matter whether he misses three chances or scores three goals, because he will start the very next move with the same level of determination.”
“He has improved during the season following Spalletti’s guidance and the way Napoli play is good for him too. I must say that Napoli with Osimhen is a team for the title, whereas without him it becomes more difficult.
“I think that makes clear the importance of a player who has won everyone over.”
Osimhen will be hoping to emulate Del Piero by winning the Serie A golden at the end of the season to cap a sensational season, and few can bet against him doing just that.
