Kenyan giants Gor Mahia continued their quest to claim their first league title since 2019 with a 2-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars on Sunday at the Kasarani stadium in Nairobi.

Gor, home to Ugandan trio Peter Lwasa, Patrick Kaddu and Shafik Kagimu, earned the maximum points through early first-half strikes from Austine Odhiambo and John Macharia.

Forward Patrick Kaddu was on hand to assist Austine Odhiambo's first goal after just three minutes.

The Uganda Cranes marksman calmly controlled the ball for the incoming Odhiambo, who fired his effort into the roof of the net on the left wing.

The second goal also involved two Ugandans; Shaifk Kagimu started the move, controlling the ball in the midfield before passing it to compatriot Peter Lwasa.

Odhiambo met the latter's pass, but the Ulinzi goalkeeper spilled his effort before John Macharia slotted home in the 9th minute to double the lead.

The win took the green army back to the summit of the Kenya Premier League on 67 points, two clear of Tusker FC with two games to go.

Head coach Jonathan McKinstry called it a challenging game but was impressed with the team's effort.

"It's a good day for us, we had a bad run of three games, and people were declaring our rivals (Tusker) champions, but we knew this league is tough, " McKinstry noted.

"We expected that our rivals would trip up, so yes, we're back on top of the log, but we also know our last two games can cause us problems, so I am just pleased for the players," he added.

Gor Mahia will face Nairobi City Stars and Kakamega Homeboys in their final two league games of the Kenya Premier League. Tusker has won back-to-back titles.
